A large evergreen shrub growing to 20ft (6m). It is hardy and grows in most soils. It is widely planted as an ornamental plant in temperate regions worldwide, and has become naturalised widely in some areas. It is often used for screening, and also as a mass landscape and ground cover plant. The leaves are poisonous to animals.
