A small native tree sometimes also known as Red Willow, but is reported to vary in colour from light orange through to red. It has long thin leaves and can usually be found close to rivers as it is suitable for wet or moist sites
It can grow up to a height of just 5m (16ft 8in) and can be hard pruned each spring to keep it as a shrub for the winter twig colour. It origins are based on the fact that it was grown by a basket maker who lived in Basford, Nottingham in the 1860s.
