Sedum are nectar rich plants, which encourage benefical wildlife, such as ladybirds, lacewings and hoverflies into the garden. 'Matrona' is a herbaceous perennial that forms clumps of succulent silvery-green leaves, flushed red around the edges, and dark purple stems bearing umbrella-shaped corymbs of pink flowers borne from mid-summer to early autumn.
They grow in full sun, in drained, neutral or slightly alkaline, moderate soils. Prune lightly after flowering to restore shape and divide every 3 or 4 years, removing any cut or dead roots, with a view to stimulating a richer flowering. Easily propagated by division in early spring.
